Rab Ne Bana Diya Review

Yash Raj Films has finally done what no one ever thought they could do – make a movie shorter than 3 hours. Shahrukh fans will definitely be disappointed – not only is the movie run time a mere 170 minutes, King Khan is only on the screen for 165 of them.
Like all YRF movies, RNBDJ will make you laugh, cry, yawn, hiccup and puke. This one even has moments that will make you jump in your seats and shout expletives. In short, this movie will make you fall in love again.
Writer-Director Aditya Chopra does a fine job with his writing and direction. The crowning moment of his writing came when he wrote the tag line: There is an extraordinary love story in every ordinary jodi. He outdid himself by making it rhyme. It was all downhill from there, however, and none of the dialogues live up to magic of that unforgettable tag line.

SRK delivers a great performance in his limited time on the screen. He has acted in so many similar roles he could have done this movie in his sleep, which he actually did. Nevertheless, he plays the understated Surinder Sahni and the over-exuberant Surrz so convincingly that less attentive members of the audience actually think it’s a double role. He even makes pissing in your pants when fighting a Sumo wrestler charming, by simultaneously and nonchalantly wiping his professorial spectacles.
But if there’s a star in the movie it is Anushka Sharma. Not only is she the first newcomer in a decade to have successfully avoided the casting couch, she is the least hammy of the current crop of heroines and only 35 years younger than the hero. Taani (Sharma) is a vivacious young thing who loves to dance. Her dance at her own wedding is the highlight (and, at 7 minutes, the shortest song) of the movie.
On the whole, RNBDJ is a nice, family movie that the kids will love. If the kids are middle-aged and fantasize about mates half their age.
